Flash Media CombiStats Tutorial

CombiStats version 4.0 was released in May 2008. This series of flash media presentations is a convenient way to get familiar with the possibilities of CombiStats, even if you are still using version 3.1 or if you have never worked with CombiStats and are considering to obtain a user licence.

The first 2 presentations will give you a general impression of what CombiStats is and what it can do. The next 3 presentations will explain in detail how you can configure CombiStats to make it do exactly what you want. The last 2 presentations are intended for those who want to go beyond the standard possibilities.

  1. Introduction to CombiStats
  2. Examples in the context of the European Pharmacopoeia
  3. Notation of potencies, dilutions and doses
  4. Models, transformations and the analysis of variance
  5. Designs
  6. Coming soon: Advanced options and Generalized linear models
  7. Coming soon: Tips, tweaks and uncommon applications
  8. Importing and exporting data

New features in version 4.0 include:

  • Possibility to generate residual plots to assist visual assessment of model fit,
  • Possibility to specify a fixed slope or intercept instead of it having estimated from the observations, as required for some types of assays such as PFU counts and for ED50 calculations without sufficient non-extreme responses,
  • Possibility to specify plate designs other than Latin square designs, to facilitate data-entry by copy pasting directly from automated plate readers into CombiStats.
  • Possibility to visualize colours in the plate design to assist visual assessment of the lay-out.
  • Possibility to express ED50 results with inverted units (e.g. in IU/ED50)
  • UNDO functionality to revert mistakes or accidental deletion of data.

The new version is backward compatible with previous versions, but not forward compatible. This means that files created with versions 3.1 or earlier can be opened in version 4.0, but not the other way around.
