MathMLTest

On this page you can test whether your browser is capable of displaying mathematical equations written in MathML, the W3C recommendation for mathematics on the Internet.

Below you should see the same equation displayed twice. The equation on the left should look similar to the equation on the right. For a more elaborate test see Chapter 8 of the User Manual.

Your browser:What you should see:
`x_(1,2)={-b+-sqrt{b^2-4ac}}/{2a}`

If you see nothing on the left, or if you see a plain ASCII string of characters like 'x_(1,2)={-b+-sqrt{b^2-4ac}}/{2a}' then your browser cannot display MathML equations. In that case you will not be able to correctly view several sections of this site. You will either have to use another browser, upgrade your current browser, or use a plug-in. Also check that you have JavaScript enabled.

Browsers that support MathML are for example:

This site is best viewed with Mozilla Firefox using ClearType screen fonts. To enable ClearType fonts in Windows XP carry out the following steps:

  2. On the Appearance tab, click Effects
  3. Click to select Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box, and then click ClearType in the list.

For convenient editing of equations ASCIIMathML is used on this site.
